Prodigy was my first episode of Dark Angel. I am so glad that i started watching DA when i did, otherwise i wouldn't have seen the history this episode gave and would have had a much harder time understanding the show as i became a fan. Fortunately it was my first ep, and as a result i gained a greater understanding of Max's past. I think that's what Prodigy was meant to be as an ep: it gave us more of the 411 on Max's time in Manticore and it made her deal with that history. Sitting next to Lydecker must have been very difficult for her. He was a large contibuter to her haunted past. But when his life was put into danger, she saved his life, showing that despite all his attempts he hadn't turned her into a freak, a monster, or even a soldier: she was an angel. Prodigy also helped define Max's relationship with Logan for me. At the time, i didn't know about the nature of their relationship... How they were always dancing around each other instead of admitting the feelings they both had. But despite their best efforts, the terrorist attack brought out those feelings for each other: so strongly that they were both furious at the other for putting their life in danger. At the same time, both refused to admit the simple truth: that the reason that they were so angry was that the situation had scared them so much. Even though Max could hold her own, Logan didn't want her in harms way. And even though Max was grateful that he was bold enough to give himself up for the women at the conference, the last thing she wanted was for Logan to get thrown off the roof.
Prodigy was ultimately successful for three reasons: | ||

Incidentally, this is the first review i ever wrote, and the second
paragraph hasn't been changed since i wrote it (around a year ago).
"...he hadn't turned her into a freak..."
