Initial Observations
I saw Shorties twice before i recorded over it.  I don't really remember much about the ep:  but i'd have to say that if there's an ep that i like the least, this may be it.  Original Cindy and Diamond getting it on (even if they didn't show anything) was just a little too much for me.  The ep didn't seem to have much plot, either:  it was just fluff, an extra episode to fill in some space, an excuse to finally get OC into bed with someone.  Many Max/Logan shippers enjoy their scenes together in this ep:  i don't remember them.

I hadn't seen that much of the show yet, and if it wouldn't have been for Haven the week before, i most likely would have stopped watching Dark Angel.  I had to ask myself some hard questions after i saw this ep, because even though i was still on a high from Haven, i had to decide if this was really a show i should be watching.  I wasn't sure that i wanted to watch a show with a lesbian character, where they casually threw around words like bitch.  But i kept watching anyway...  And i did ultimately choose to continue watching the show, but it was kind of like OC's reaction in Rising:  i knew that i would have to work through the issues that had arisen, and still i knew deep down in my heart that i couldn't not watch because Max, Logan, the show, was my boo.  I was beginning to see that God had thrust this show upon me, that i had to watch it or my life would never be what He wanted it to be.

One of Shorties--indeed Dark Angel's--redeeming qualities for me has always been Jessica's voice overs on the Space Needle.  I love the poem that Logan wrote about Max:  not that it made much sense (it was kinda corny) but that it showed that he cared.  It gave Max a reason to go on and fight for another day (something that fans of the show desperately need to do themselves if we are ever to get a third season).

Many fans have become disenchanted with the show (in season two) because we don't have this aspect anymore, because they think the show has become too sci fi.  But this is what good sci fi is:  the analysis of the human condition and determination to make it better, to not let things like this happen.  The ability to take things as they are, to look at people and events in a slightly different way and have compassion for them.  That's why Dark Angel is so good:  because it's great sci fi.  We have missed out not having Max stand over the broken city anymore.

I wish i wouldn't have recorded over this episode, but i have the part i needed the most...  I'll have to reserve further judgement on the rest of Shorties until i have the chance to actually see it again.  Still... i'm proud to be Freak; i'm proud to be a Dark Angel fan.

On the Screen Interesting Revelations...

I'm still not sure where TPTB came up with the term Shorties, but OC sure is in Love.

Original Cindy's name is Cynthia McEachin.  Valarie Rae Miller's skin isn't that dark:  they must have assumed that OC's father was Irish (or Scottish?).  I wonder what nationalities her parents really are?

So OC prays from time to time; i'm not sure who she prays to, but it seems kind of strange to me.  See, i have to be completely honest with you on this:  i don't approve of anyone pursuing a homosexual lifestyle.  God says it's wrong, so that's it:  it's wrong.  I believe that if He wanted us to live that way he would have created Adam and Steve or Amanda and Eve.  The Bible lables homosexuality as a sin in more than one place, and its practice is one of the main reasons that God destroyed Soddom and Gomorrah.

At the same time, i'm not going to condemn a person for being homosexual.  If that's your thing, i'll be honest with you about how i feel, but i'll still be your friend.  It's not my place to judge anyone any more than it is for someone to judge me for being a Christian.

That's part of the reason why i still watch Dark Angel (despite Original Cindy's lifestyle choices).  In my mind, it's unrealistic for me to stop watching a good show just because it accurately portrays the time we're living in.  And one of the things i love about Dark Angel is that while Original Cindy's sexual preference is there, it's not an issue.  OC and TPTB don't act like homosexuality is the only way to be, or like it's better than being straight:  it's just who OC is.

I don't have to approve of OC, i don't have to like her, but i do have to love her anyway (as a friend).  I realize that there are many of you out there that have chosen the same sort of lifestyle and/or approve of it:  i'm not here to judge you or her.  If i could change OC's sexual preference, i would, but that's not my decision.

One of the things i love about living in the United States of America is that we have the freedom of speech, the freedom to choose how we want to worship God...  But that also includes if you want to worship Him, if you want to serve Him.  I'm still gonna tell you how i see it:  homosexuality is wrong.  But that doesn't mean we can't be friends.  You're free to believe what you believe, and i'm free to believe what i believe, and all i want is to agree to disagree, because you don't want to be told not to talk about being gay, and i don't want to be told not to talk about being a Christian.  Wanna go watch a different ep?
