Initial Observations Nitpicks Analysis
This wasn't my third episode.  I know, it was next in line, but i was watching something else while it was on (probably Jag).  So all i saw of Blah Blah, Woof Woof was one scene during a commercial break:  Max's timely departure from South Market Street.  It wasn't until months later that i saw a rerun of the ep and finally got to see every M/L shipper's favorite scene:  the dream.

I still didn't know much about Zack at this point.  It was abundantly clear to me that all he was interested in was being a good soldier, and that's part of the reason that he seemed like such a jerk to me.  And yet i didn't find it surprising when BBWW revealed that he cares for Max so much more strongly than as just a brother.  Sitting in front of the fire, talking about the Escape, it's so obvious that he loves her...  At the same time he still would never allow himself to settle down, to raise a family:  they're too much of a liability.

But BBWW still changed my perception of Zack.  The fact that Zack comes back and turns himself in, sparing Max, is proof that he's not just a soldier:  deep down, he's as Human as the rest of us.  Now that i've watched him more, i can see that, but i don't know if we would have ever seen that side of him were it not for that conversation by the fire...  I'd probably still be thinking of him as the jerk that he was in every episode besides this one and Some Assembly Required.  I never would have guessed.

The computer generated drawing on the "Wanted" poster doesn't look anything like Max; no wonder they had so many girls in jail.

The light was blinking on Logan's machine, and Zack even asked him if he checked his messages...  The only trouble is, Max didn't leave a message.

When Max was looking for Logan in the hospital, she shouldn't have been able to get so close to an operating room without scrubs or an escort.

There are few times that i can actually watch something and give it five stars without feeling like i'm not just being kind.  There are many shows and movies that i love, that i want to give five stars, but i can't in good conscience give them the highest rating because they're just not that good...  For some reason i just like them anyway.

Blah Blah, Woof Woof is not one of those instances.  I have watched this episode over and over, and i can't find anything wrong with it.  Every line is perfect, every action perfectly orchestrated, every melody inserted in just the right place so that it all comes together like a masterpiece.

As a shipper i've sometimes had to watch an episode straining to see a relationship from the exact angle that will prove that two characters are "Made For Each Other."  Actually, i've done this more times than i'd like to admit (i am, after all, a hopeless romantic), but not this time:  BBWW proves without a shadow of a doubt that Max and Logan are meant to be together.  I don't know if it's really possible for two people to share a dream, to know that the other is in trouble miles away, or finish each other's sentences, but Max and Logan can.  Even though they keep on waltzing around each other, it's there plain as day.

And then there's Lydecker obsession with Max...  Seeing this episode again, after i've seen so much (all of the second season), i can see how important this episode really is.  Lydecker's feelings for Max are explained in ...And Jesus Brought a Casserole, but the fact that Max is a universal blood donor?  The full importance of that doesn't even begin to hit you until you see Exposure almost twenty episodes later!  That just blows me away.  Everything just fits:  it's part of why i love this show so much.  And i haven't even mentioned what was going on at Jam Pony...

As cool as it is, i have never understood Blah Blah, Woof Woof's title.  I saw the chess scene once, but i was distracted because the stupid vcr wasn't recording.  I'm sure that it must have to do with Logan's conversation with Max in the car (just before the kiss) and his conversation with Bling about not going on the lam with Max ("No, it was the right thing to do--let her go--for a thousand different reasons.  And i always do the right thing, right?").  Still... Blah Blah, Woof Woof is a bit of a mystery for me as a title.

Lydecker likes to use those little metal balls that help you relax.

Back at the cabin Max knew when something was wrong with Logan.

Dr. Carr's practice is at is Metro Medical Hospital.

Logan's blood type is AB-.

When Zack says "Get your head in the game, soldier" it's freaky because at that moment he sounds almost exactly like John Savage as Lydecker.

Alright, peeps, i'm going to tackle the "incest" aspect all this shippyness.  Many DA fans are Max/Zack shippers, and i respect that.  Even more of you are Max/Alec shippers, and i can understand where you're coming from, too.  Many Max/Logan-ers don't agree with either relationship because they see it as incest.

Now i'm as against incest as anyone, but i can understand why this seriously ticks some of the other shippers off.  First of all, neither Zack or Alec is Max's brother:  a valid point.  M/Aers also argue that Max and Alec didn't grow up together.  Also a valid point... for Alec as well as Zack.  You see, in all actuality, Max didn't really grow up with either of them.  The Escape was in '09, when Max was only nine years old:  so she spent half of her childhood away from Zack, and half away from Alec's identical twin, Ben.  While Max originally saw Ben when she looked at Alec, she now knows Alec and this is no longer the case.

Yet i still agree with the incest line of reasoning.  In all the times i ever saw Zack looking at Max "that way," i knew that it could never be:  Max could never see Zack as anything besides her "big brother," and Zack would never let himself be so "weak."  And for all the times Max has been in close situations with Alec, i knew that it would never happen because there is simply no chemistry there.  The truth of the situation is, even though Zack and Alec and Max are in no way related by blood (as far as we know... who knows whose dna was mixed with whose?), Max would never feel comfortable with seeing them as anything other than brothers and so it would be incest to her.  This in itself is reason enough for me to call it incest (while as far as we know it technically isn't), but it is not my sole reason for being a Max/Logan shipper.

I've been an M/Ler from my first episode of Dark Angel, Prodigy.  I hadn't seen the first five episodes, and i certainly didn't know what would come next, but the thing that i understood the most about Dark Angel is that Max and Logan were meant to be together.  If Blah Blah, Woof Woof does anything as an episode, it confirms that fact.

I said earlier that i didn't know if it were truly possible for two people to share a dream, and it's true:  but if two people could, i'd want it to be like Max and Logan's dream.  Both of them had just made the ultimate sacrifice...  Logan let go of Max even though he knew (or was beginning to figure out) that he couldn't really live without her.  Max went back even though she knew it would most likely cost her her strange little life and worse:  her freedom.  Up to this point, they had both spent their entire relationship pushing each other away (still did when they woke up), but they finally found someplace where they could be in each others arms.  It was in that place where no one could hurt them, not Manticore, or gunshot wounds, or they themselves, and that they could finally say what needed to be said with actions and phrases more powerful than poems and wars.

If i had seen this episode in order, i wouldn't have appreciated it.  I didn't know Max and Logan yet, i didn't know why it had to be the way it was even though all of us (including them) wanted nothing more for them to be together.  Their relationship has been far more meaningful the way TPTB portrayed it (yes, even with the Virus) than it would have been if the two of them would have just jumped in the sack and got it over with.  That's one of the reasons Dark Angel has changed my life so much:  the relationship that Max and Logan share is a large part of what makes the show so powerful.  To take away that love is to lose what makes Dark Angel great.  That's why i'm not into Max and Zack being together, or Max and Alec getting it on, because it wouldn't make any sense:  it would be empty and cheating all of us.  I don't believe in getting busy for no reason, no matter how humorous it is when Joshua says it.

For two seasons, Max and Logan have been together yet apart.  I do not believe that Zack, or Rafer, or Alec, or any virus could ever keep them truly apart, for as much as those things have seemed divisive, they have instead only brought the two of them closer together.  I believe that's the reason why Cameron and crew have put all these obstacles between them:  because ultimately it will make their love stronger.  That's why we appreciate BBWW's dream, Art Attack's locket, Shorties' poem, AJBAC's love-making (for they were making love), Radar Love's radar, Borrowed Time's sacrifice, Haven and Harbor Lights' rescue, Mia's comments in Fugghedaboudit, and their stolen touch in Proof of Purchase.  It's what makes their clasped hands in Freak Nation so powerful... and that's why i'm a Max/Logan fan.

What Dark Angel all comes down to is two people and the people they care about making their way in a broken world.  Love is stronger than anything else, and unless we act on it, unless Max tells Logan that she loves him, we will never be truly happy.  For all Dark Angel's darkness, realism, and the like, in reality it's all about hope...  Because without faith, hope, and love we don't have anything:  it would all be blah blah, woof woof.  And that is what this episode is saying:  love conquers all.
